HKUST Hosts AAPBS Conference to Examine the Impact of Technology on Future Work

Over a hundred deans, directors and senior administrators from AAPBS member schools and our global network gathered in Hong Kong for the three-day AAPBS 2018 Academic Conference, to discuss an important topic - “The Impact of Technology on the Future of Work”.

The Conference was hosted by the School of Business and Management of The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST Business School) from 28 to 30 May 2018. In his welcome remarks, Professor Tam Kar Yan, President of AAPBS and Dean of HKUST Business School, said that academic institutions can make valuable contributions to this vital topic by creating and disseminating knowledge and fresh ideas. The Conference has provided a platform for advancing the higher education landscape and making a meaningful difference for business education.

Following an opening speech by Professor Shyy Wei, Acting President of HKUST, the Conference was officiated by Ir Allen Yeung, the Government Chief Information Officer of The Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. He and three keynote speakers (including Mr Albert Wong, CEO of Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation; Professor Eric Cornuel, Director General and CEO of EFMD; and Mr Francis Ngai, General Manager of IBM China/Hong Kong Limited) outlined the technology roadmap in Hong Kong and how educators should review their curriculum in preparing for the next generation of talent.

The Conference featured a total of 16 corporate leaders, expert speakers and moderators. They shared their insights into the significant impacts of technology, discussed the skills student needed in future marketplace, and exchanged practical ideas in providing education that addresses real-world challenges in rounds of interactive discussion.

In addition to keynote speeches and panel discussions, the Conference also featured a series of pre-conference bonus sessions presented by the sponsor and exhibitors of the event.
