Kellogg-HKUST EMBA Celebrated its 20th Birthday

The Kellogg-HKUST Executive MBA (EMBA) Program, the best of its kind in the world, celebrated its 20th anniversary over a long weekend in early July.

After a welcome cocktail on Friday, 6 July, a series of celebration activities were held. More than 300 business leaders, faculty and program alumni gathered on 7 July for a special “Leadership in an Age of Disruption” conference at the Four Seasons Hotel, Hong Kong. More than a third of those attending had flown in from around the world for the occasion, signifying the high esteem in which the program, and all connected with it, are held.

During the conference, a number of eminent speakers shared their insightful thoughts on the new challenges and opportunities facing today’s generation of leaders. Guest of honor was Mrs Carrie Lam, the Chief Executive of HKSAR. In her address, Mrs Lam recognized the global reputation of HKUST and the Kellogg-HKUST EMBA Program and said these wonderful achievements would not have been possible without the great work done by the University Council Chairman, the President, the Dean, and the faculty, both past and present.

A centerpiece of the event was a topical presentation on “Trump Economics and the US-Trade Imbalance”, given by Professor Justin Lin, former Chief Economist of the World Bank and now Director of the Institute of New Structural Economics, Peking University. Afterwards, Professor Lin was joined on stage by Dr Vincent Lo, Chairman of Shui On Holdings, and of the Hong Kong Trade Development Council; and Professor K C Chan, Adjunct Professor of HKUST Business School, and former Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury of HKSAR. The trio continued to discuss the same issue and explore the rationale behind the looming trade war between the US and China.

Throughout the day, five distinguished alumni, who were recognized with awards, gave presentations on leadership and new business strategies in a time of accelerating innovation and disruption. Read more
