Researchers from the HKUST Institute of Emerging Markets, Stanford University, Wuhan University, and the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences have jointly initiated a “China Employer-Employee Survey”. The survey, which aims to create a longitudinal dataset that tracks changes in the situation of both employers and employees in China, will provide a platform for evidence based studies and policy making of the Chinese economy. The study also looks into how Chinese firms are coping with business challenges and the implications for Chinese workers.

This cross-province employer-employee survey in China is one of the most comprehensive of its type. It surveyed more than 1200 companies and 11300 employees in the Guangdong and Hubei provinces in 2015 and 2016.

Interesting results have been found, which carry useful implications for business leaders and policy makers concerned about China’s manufacturing.
