[eNews] Global Leadership Program for the MTR Corporation

In January, the Executive Education Office organized a one-day Global Leadership Program for the MTR Corporation as part of their Advanced Management Program which targets their executives in Hong Kong and overseas hubs. 28 participants were from across functions in Hong Kong, Mainland China, Australia, the UK and Sweden.

The program was led by Prof Steve DeKrey, Associate Dean and Adjunct Professor from the Department of Management, in the form of lectures, surveys, case discussions, role-play and debate. It aimed to inspire participants to further develop cultural, global leadership and strategy process awareness in order to enhance their leadership skills in the global workplace and strengthen the interactions between headquarters and the hubs.

According to Prof DeKrey, there are no born leaders and he believes global leadership behaviors can be learned. Different tools can be used to illustrate various leadership behaviors and styles in different cultures including, for example, the Kouzes and Posner’s survey, Hofstede’s cultural dimensions and Lewis’ model etc. Executives found the program very interactive and inspiring, and the case studies were very useful.
