[eNews] MBA Students Claim Top Prizes in International Case Competitions

A truly international team formed by five MBA students: Michael Pelosi (Canada), Zhang Jiaying (China), Aman Arora (India), Harsh Mody (India) and Sonia Im (South Korea), won the Client Prompt & Championship at the USC Marshall Global Consulting Challenge in the US.

Reflecting back on how they were able to win the competition, the team referred to the incredible diversity at HKUST. Their team was comprised of people from four different nations and five different professions (Consulting, Engineering, Finance, Public Relations, and Sales). This breadth of diversity enabled them to not only be well rounded in terms of tackling the specifics of the case, but also meant they could provide a rich global perspective of the problem at hand.

Meanwhile, another team of three MBA students: Akhil Nair, Jonathan Ramsay and Ryan Chan took home the first place prize in the 2018 Haskayne MBA 24 Hour EPIC Case Challenge in Canada.

Both teams acknowledged the support they received from professors through the one-week full-day intensive course - Enhancing Professional Skills (EPS), was the big difference. EPS is led by Prof Larry Franklin along with Prof Stephen Nason, Prof Joseph Salvacruz and Prof Chris Doran. The students go through an intensive training program of analyzing data, issue identification, slide building and presentation skills to prepare for case competitions and professional development.
