[eNews] Taekwondo Student Kicks it Up a Notch

Claudia Cheung is a Year 2 student from the Business School and also a Taekwondo Poomsae athlete representing Hong Kong. To prepare for local and overseas competitions, she decided to take a gap year for intensive training and to earn more experience abroad.

Her efforts paid off in the recent Asian Games Invitation Tournament held in Indonesia, where she won the bronze medal in the Women Individual Poomsae.

Claudia said she started Taekwondo when she was five. “I have stayed in the sport because it is very challenging and there is always room for improvement when seeking perfection,” said Claudia. “The medal represents recognition and will boost my confidence in the Malaysia Open, which is a point-earning competition that would hopefully increase my chance of qualifying for the Asian Games.”

Named the Best Female Athlete by the Hong Kong Taekwondo Association, Claudia also enjoys teaching kids to learn Taekwondo and promotes the sport in Hong Kong.
