[eNews] Cambridge Field Trip Study to Make Entrepreneurship Happen

The HKUST EMBA for Chinese Executive Program has collaborated with the Cambridge Judge Business School to organize a 6-day field trip study, for 62 students from the 2017 class between 11 and 16 March 2018. The theme of the trip was entrepreneurship and innovation.

This trip was based on action learning, from enterprise innovation, business model design, financial analysis and teamwork, to negotiation and communication skills, to systematically achieve the entrepreneurial goals.  Students learned about the most forward-looking entrepreneurial viewpoints, the development of different industries and areas from Cambridge’s renowned scholars and the founders of ARM and other companies, the perspectives and evaluation methods of startups from investors. Each afternoon, the students divided into groups to discuss innovative positioning, business modeling, finance planning, and the organizational structure of eight startups. On the last day, participants made a pitch to investors.

Students experienced the traditional culture of this historic University by participating in a campus tour, “punting” and high table dinners too.

Unfortunately, during the study tour, Prof Stephen Hawking died, so the students expressed their respect through flowers and messages and thanked him for his visit to HKUST and his outstanding contribution to the exploration of the mysteries of the universe.
