[eNews] Global MBA Challenge Case Competition

The third student-led annual Global MBA Challenge Case Competition was held on 12-14 April 2018 on campus. This year, 14 teams from top MBA programs around the world competed on novel APAC business challenges from the program partners Bayer Healthcare, C!ty’Super, and ANZ.

This year, London Business School (The New Low) won both the strategy round sponsored by Bayer Hong Kong and the overall championship for their consistent performance throughout the competition. (Link to result)

The Global MBA Challenge represents an unparalleled opportunity for international MBA student teams to gain unique insights into the intricacies of some of the world’s fastest growing economies and expand their global expertise and network. Each year, the competition brings together top talent representing the best global MBA programs, and comprises a two-day challenge solving real-life business cases.

ISACA Student Group Annual Case Competition

At the UG Level, the ISACA Student Group Annual Case Competition is a joint-university case competition organized by the ISACA Student Groups of three local universities, including HKUST. Officially endorsed by the ISACA China-Hong Kong Chapter, the competition focuses on developing local university students’ interest in IT Security.

This year, students from all qualified tertiary education institutions were invited to form teams of three and analyze a given Business X IT case related to the topic “FinTech”. There were 96 teams competing with each other. The competition ended with the Final Round Presentation on 7 April 2018, where three teams from HKUST gave their presentations. The HKUST teams “Finnovation” and “The Flash” notched up the 1st runner-up and the 2nd runner-up.

Another two of HKUST junior case teams did well in the Hong Kong Joint University Case Challenge hosted by HKU, CUHK and CityU. The two HKUST teams similarly notched up the 1st runner-up and the 2nd runner-up. And one of them also won the Best Presenter Award.
