[eNews] A Magnet for Diverse Talent - Student Athletes

The School recognizes the diverse talent of our student body. This September, two freshmen joined us via the Student Athlete Admission Scheme (SAAS), bringing their remarkable talents in their chosen fields to the HKUST community.

Chloe CHAN, an IB diploma candidate, has been awarded a full-tuition scholarship in recognition of her service in the Hong Kong Women’s National Ice Hockey Team. Chloe has represented Hong Kong in different international competitions since her debut in the Olympic Games qualifiers in 2016.  She will continue her training in the Team, while balancing her studies. Her experience of “underperformance” in her first international tournament taught her how to play and work under pressure. Now she feels more confident and hopes her lesson from hockey will be a positive asset to her studies.

An HKDSE candidate, CHAN Chun Hei was admitted via the same Scheme, with his consistent contribution to the Hong Kong National Athletics Team in long jump. Chun Hei exhibited the perseverance in excelling in both sports and academics. His most treasured win, where he persisted under injury and doubt to reach his personal best, placed heavy emphasis on the important role of mindset and focus.

Budding sporting enthusiasts with interests in the SAAS can also apply for the HKUST Alumni Endowment Fund Sports Scholarship. In addition to tuition scholarships, student athletes may receive sponsorships for competitions and further support such as accommodation and an extension of their study period.
