[eNews] Industry Talks continue to attract Students towards Careers in Fintech

Organized by the Fintech Research Project, the first two industry talks of the 2021-22 academic year were held successfully and provided 100 students with the latest information on market trends and practical fintech knowledge.

The first industry talk was held in September. Dr Paul SIN, Consulting Partner of Deloitte China and Deloitte’s Asia Pacific Blockchain Lab Leader, shared the latest market practice on the application of emerging technology to solve real-life business problems with participating students. With over 20 years of IT management and consulting experience focusing on the financial services sector, Dr SIN also discussed how technologies complement each other in the fintech ecosystem to achieve synergy in the business world.

Returning to a physical seminar for the first time since the pandemic broke out, Mr Justin FLETCHER, Head of AML Services of ComplianceAsia Consulting Ltd, hosted the second talk on October 21. Students were introduced to key concepts of anti-money laundering (AML), counter-terrorism financing (CFT), as well as best practices in fintech compliance.

Both events attracted students from various disciplines and received encouraging feedback. Industry talks have been popular among students interested in developing a future career in fintech. The talks have also helped companies identify and recruit HKUST talent to fill fintech-related roles.

The Fintech Research Project organizes activities to promote fintech to university students and the public. Follow their LinkedInFacebook, and Instagram for more updates about future events. If you are a potential employer, please contact the project team via email at
