Queen’s University of Canada wins Championship Title in the 15th Citi - HKUST International Case Competition

(Hong Kong) – Queen’s University from Canada has been crowned champion in the Citi - HKUST International Case Competition (“CICC”) 2017, defeating 14 other outstanding teams from top business schools around the world to take the highest honor in the prestigious annual contest. The winning team devised a visionary strategy for Citi, who served as the case company for the first time in the history of CICC.

The CICC reached a new milestone running as Asia’s first and leading international case competition bringing around 80 undergraduate business students and team advisors annually to Hong Kong. Sponsored by Citi and co-organized with the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology’s School of Business and Management (HKUST Business School), this year’s competition presented a short case and a long case, challenging the students to put forward strategic recommendations in 3 hours and 22 hours respectively to revive the proposition of Citigold; and tapping into the opportunities that FinTech presents to Citi.

Weber Lo, Citi Country Officer and CEO, Hong Kong & Macau, said, “I am pleased to see the high quality delivery from each participating teams, given two very challenging and highly relevant topics in the area of FinTech and personalized wealth management; and the strong collaborative and competitive spirit between the students. At Citi, providing financial services responsibly to enable growth and economic progress is our number one mission. Citi will continue to demonstrate our commitment through the support of such programs to help develop robust and responsible leaders of the future.”

“Case competitions enable students to discover for themselves and resolve real-world business issues together,” said Professor Tam Kar Yan, Dean of HKUST Business School. “In its 15th consecutive year, the Citi - HKUST International Case Competition has established itself as a signature event not only to provide an exceptional opportunity for students to compete with their peers around the world, but also become a testament to a close business-academia partnership to nurture future business talent.”

Held in Hong Kong between October 21 and 27, the fifteenth CICC attracted 15 teams from 10 countries and markets, including Australia, Hong Kong, Korea, New Zealand, Singapore, Thailand, Canada, the U.S.A, Denmark and the Netherlands. The judging panel of the competition comprises of senior executives from Citi Hong Kong and global management consulting firm.
