HKUST Global MBA Challenge Brings Together 12 Teams from Top Schools

MBA students at the School of Business and Management of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST Business School) brought together 12 teams from top business schools around the world to compete in the second Global MBA Challenge. The two-day challenge took place on 10 and 11 March.

“The Global MBA Challenge is HKUST’s very own case competition, which creates a remarkable platform for our peers from around the world to compete and learn from each other,” said Yulia Adamskaya, the Competition Organizing Committee Co-Chairperson. “We aspire to attract talented students from around the globe so that we can all benefit from the interaction and being able to put together a truly international case competition.”

This year’s competition challenged students to go head-to-head in three different rounds, including a short flash case, a strategy case and a negotiation competition. The 12 competing teams were given the opportunity to present viable solutions for strategic issues faced by the case companies: Sears Holdings Global Sourcing Ltd and ANZ Banking Group.

Tsinghua University took home the championship for their consistent and impressive performance through all three rounds of the competition.

“Thank for the generous support and sponsorship from our partners, the Global MBA Challenge was a huge success, which has provided an excellent opportunity for our students to engage in cross-cultural exchange,” said Mr Sean Ferguson, Associate Dean (Master’s Programs) and Director of MBA Programs. “I am also very proud of the Organizing Committee for their great effort in mobilizing corporate partners, students and faculty to make this event succeed year after year”.
