Teams Across Three Continents Compete in the 3rd Global MBA Challenge

The third Global MBA Challenge, hosted by the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology Business School (HKUST Business School), brought together 14 teams from top business schools around the world to participate in a multi-simulation case challenge. The rigorous two-day competition, organized by the MBA students of HKUST, took place on 13-14 April 2018 in the Lee Shau Kee Business Building on HKUST’s Clearwater Bay campus.

“The Global MBA Challenge is one of the few truly international case competitions around the world that aims to combine the best of the east and the west. It is a great platform for us to bring together a diverse group of MBA students from around the world to share our knowledge and our cultures,” said Jilliane Ong, the Competition Organizing Committee Head.

2018 marks the third year running for the Global MBA Challenge and the event is only getting bigger and bigger, with more participating business schools and exciting new corporate partners. Like the past two years, participants undergo three exciting rounds of competition based on: a long strategy case, a shorter flash case and a negotiation competition. This year’s live cases were based on Bayer Hong Kong, City’Super Group and ANZ Banking Group. Participants explored operational as well as organizational challenges for these businesses and developed their proposals accordingly.

National University of Singapore’s (NUS) Team Alpha won the flash case, sponsored by City’Super Group. There was also an exciting three-way tie during the ANZ-sponsored negotiations round, between London Business School’s (LBS) Team Magenta, Tuck School of Business Dartmouth’s Tuck Team and NUS’s Team Alpha. Finally, another team from LBS, The New Low, won both the strategy round sponsored by Bayer Hong Kong and the overall championship for their consistent performance throughout the competition.
