Accounting Alumna Tops in CPA Exam

HKUST Accounting alumna Ng Yi Wai won the Gold Medal in the June 2006 Final Examination of CPA (Certified Public Accountant) Qualification Program (QP). Another HKUST Accounting graduate Yip Sin Ying also won the Gold Medal in 2005.

Ng was graduated in 2005 and enrolled in the QP in September that year. The QP is known for its low passing rate, ranging from 50-60%. Ng passed all four examinations of the QP in her first attempt and achieved top mark in the Final Professional Examination. She attributes her success to the ability to incorporate work experience into the QP study, and also HKUST's Accounting Program which provided her a solid foundation in accounting knowledge. She is now an associate at PricewaterhouseCoopers and has worked with clients including Walt Disney, Sony and the Tom Group.

The CPA QP is offered by the Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants. It is a comprehensive training program that provides the knowledge and skills necessary to become a Certified Public Accountant (CPA). The CPA QP includes a Professional Program (PP) component and a Final Professional Examination. Candidates have to complete four PP modules including Financial Reporting, Financial Management, Auditing and Information Management, and Taxation before they take the Final Professional Examination. The Final Professional Examination assesses a candidate's ability to integrate knowledge and skills from the PP syllabus and apply these across all fields of competency, demonstrating a level of skills appropriate to a professional practitioner.
