SEAN O. FERGUSON

Associate Dean 

Mr Sean O. Ferguson is a global higher education executive with a diverse combination of professional experiences. Currently, Mr. Ferguson is the Associate Dean at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology’s (HKUST) School of Business and Management. In this capacity, he is responsible for leading the MBA programs and providing oversight for the school’s various master degree programs. Additionally, he is responsible for the Business School Alumni and Career and Professional Development Offices.

Under Ferguson’s leadership, HKUST became the first Asian MBA Program to be ranked in the four major international MBA ranking publications: The Financial Times, The Economist, Bloomberg Businessweek, and Forbes. Since achieving this status, HKUST is the only Asian MBA program to accomplish this feat on multiple and consecutive occasions. Ferguson has launched many new initiatives that have enhanced quality, increased enrollment, improved career outcomes, and further elevated the global stature of the HKUST MBA Programs.

Ferguson is an opinion leader in the management education industry, currently serving on the boards of the MBA Career Services an Employee Alliance (MBACSEA) and the CEMS Global Alliance in Management. He currently, serves as chair of the Globalization and Membership Committee for CEMS Executive Board. In 2016, Ferguson completed a 4-year term on the board of directors of Graduate Management Admissions Council (GMAC), having served on the Audit, Membership, and Nominating Committee during his tenure. Ferguson is also actively involved in the Asia-Pacific business community serving his second term on the board of governors for AmCham-Hong Kong.

Prior to joining HKUST in 2013, Mr Ferguson was the Assistant Dean of Degree Programs at Rice University’s Jones Graduate School of Business (JGSB). Before moving to the higher education industry, Mr Ferguson had a distinguished in corporate career working at PROS, Cap Gemini Ernst & Young (CGE&Y), and Procter & Gamble (P&G).

Mr Ferguson received his Bachelor of Science in engineering from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor and a Master of Business Administration from Rice University.
