PhD Study at HKUST Business School: Travel Grant Awards to Outstanding Students for Campus Visits
The Research Grants Council of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region has launched a Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme(HKPFS)* to attract the best and brightest students in the world to pursue their PhD studies in Hong Kong. The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) Business School invites applications for HKPFS as well as for travel grants to visit HKUST Business School and to gain a first-hand knowledge of our PhD program.
Requirements for Eligibility
Must have a completed undergraduate degree
Must have apply for the Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme for 2014/15 and put HKUST as the first choice institution.
Must have submitted the online application for admission to a HKUST Business School PhD program 2014/15.
The following are not required but highly desirable
780 minimum in GRE Quantitative and 600 minimum in GRE Verbal, 55 minimum in GMAT Quantitative and 30 minimum in GMAT Verbal;
Among top 3 in class/cohort (there must be at least two letters of recommendation stating that the student is among the best 3 students in his/her class/cohort).
Candidates selected for campus visits will be eligible for a travel grant that will cover the cost of a round trip economy air/train tickets.
The visit, will include attending a department research seminar, meetings with faculty members and a tour of the facilities. Selected candidates are required to get air fares endorsed by the HKUST Business School prior to purchasing tickets.

Applicants of the Travel Grant Awards should have already submitted the HKPFS application via RGC System and
a PhD program application via
HKUST Admissions System. Applicants are required to provide the
HKPFS reference number and HKUST application number in the application form.
Two Recommendation letters
To be appended to the application form or
To be submitted separately by the referee to
email@example.com or PhD Program, Business School, HKUST, Clear Water Bay, Kowloon,
Hong Kong by December 4, 2013.
The HKPFS provides a monthly stipend of HK$20,000 (approximately US$2,600) and a conference and research related travel allowance of HK$10,000 (approximately US$1,300) per year for the awardees for a period of three years. Individual departments can extend the award for another year. Applicants not selected for the HKPFS can choose to remain in the regular admission pool and be considered for the Postgraduate Studentship of the HKUST Business School, which is at the rate of HK$14,000 per month.
