In 1999, the Financial Times of London,
adopted a new way of looking at the research element of their
annual MBA ranking at the same time as they began to include
schools from Asia in the survey. The new approach was to analyze
top publications for frequency of articles from participating
schools. All schools were asked to submit the name of three
titles in each of 10 subject areas relevant to business
research. A list of 30 top journals was eventually compiled
based on the collective recommendations by those schools. In
addition, five practitioner journals were also selected using
the same method. From 2003, the list expanded to include 35
academic journals, making the total 40. In 2010, Financial Times has revised the list to 45. These 45 academic and
practitioner journals are generally considered the most
prestigious and respected in their fields.
