The Citi International Case Competition is the first international business case competition held in Hong Kong. This is the eighth year that the HKUST Business School hosts this event. The event is named after Citi in recognition of the group's generous donation in support of this educational activity.

  • Focus on world-class competition that highlights the strategic challenges and managerial dilemmas faced by global business leaders.

  • Promote Hong Kong through the case and the event.

  • Promote team work and cross-cultural exchange.

  • Provide a forum for exchange of ideas and sharing of experience among students and faculty members.

  • A careful mix of top-ranked international business schools are invited to participate.
  • Each team consists of 4 undergraduate students.  Team members are chosen by their school.
  • For students on the European University System: A student currently studying in or before the 3rd year of maximum three years of specialized business education.

  • For students on the US system: A student currently studying in or before the 4th year of maximum 4 years of undergraduate study.

The HKUST Business School will work with Citi to develop a business case for the competition. The case provides background about an organization and outlines a set of pressing business issues that senior management needs to address. Supporting data and other associated information such as annual reports, financial data, and market research studies could be provided as references.

Each team has 26 hours to complete the analysis and provide recommendations to senior management for consideration. During this period, students have to work on their own. Discussion of the case with outside sources, advisors, faculties or any parties other than their teammates is not permitted.

To support their analyses, each group is provided with one desktop computer with internet connection. Students are welcome to bring their own laptops, but CICC committee would not provide any supporting equipment for these laptops nor any other technical support. Students have to work in the apartment provided by HKUST.

The National Costume Show will be held during the Closing Dinner on Nov 4.
