Many sports and cultural activities are organized by a large number of student societies during the academic year. Some of these activities are especially arranged for members of the individual societies while some aim at promoting engaging activities among all students. Wherever possible, the Student Affairs Office is ready to provide advice and logistic support for the organization of these activities.
University Teams

Students of the University are invited to take part in a range of inter-institutional competitions in sports and in cultural activities, mainly through the sports and other student societies.

The University encourages student participation in competitions of various kinds locally and with their counterparts overseas. The University is a member of the Hong Kong Post-Secondary Colleges Athletic Association which organizes sports competitions among post-secondary colleges in Hong Kong. Teams formed outside this Association have taken part in inter-collegiate and/or open competitions in their respective areas. HKUST student teams have competed overseas in sports and cultural events, and the University continues to pursue additional exchange programs with foreign universities interested in such activities. During the past years, the Soccer, Table-tennis, Basketball, Handball, Track & Field Teams, Debating Society, Bridge Team, University Choir, Finance Students' Society, Business Students' Union, Linguistics Society, AIESEC and Chemistry Students' Society have visited Chinese Mainland, Taiwan, South Korea and U.S.A. for friendly matches and practice games.

Center for the Arts
The Center for the Arts under the Student Affairs Office has the mission to bring arts and culture to this technology-oriented university and to nurture artistic awareness and an appreciation for beauty within the UST community. It regularly stages exhibitions, concerts, films and performances on campus; supports students, faculty and staff in organizing various arts activities; and organizes student cultural exchange activities with Mainland universities and other international institutions.
