| "It
is such a multi-cultural environment that every day you learn a
new word, a new way to do something, a new belief."
The word "university" derives itself from Latin, literally
meaning "community of masters and scholars".
The main idea of a University its not working late hours studying
or preparing for a interview; it's about acquiring knowledge,
and the real knowledge its found in every step we take, in every
turn we make. So, I took the decision of being surrounded by
it.
HKUST offers courses in several languages, yes - German,
Putonghua, Latin and Spanish being some of them - but more than
just having a vague idea about the topic, you can hone your skills
with friends from international backgrounds on campus.
HKUST has been, since the first time I came here, the place
where you can find and learn from many different cultures in
one place. It's like being in the UN. You can meet people from
all over the world; where you can have French toast cooked by
your French friends for breakfast; and where you can learn some
Russian from your roommate on the side, and still have some sweet
dim sum for dessert.
It is such a multi-cultural environment
that every day you learn a new word, a new way to do something,
a new belief.
This is how knowledge turns into wisdom, by knowing not just
a bit and not from books, novels or newspaper, by knowing from
the real source you can learn about Socrates from your Latin
friend, Shakespeare from your UK roommate, Taoism from your football
teammate. So, give yourself the chance to be wise and expand
your horizons there is too much to see out there.
