Joint School STEM+E Program
Co-organized by the Hong Kong Science Park (HKTSP) and five local secondary schools, the first joint school STEM + Entrepreneurship Program was held on May 11. The program featured a case competition with a view to enhancing students’ understanding of the importance of innovation and technology and giving them exposure to startup companies.

With support from students of the HKUST Business School, participating teams were tasked to prepare and present a business proposal to address some challenges faced by a startup company. Prof Emily NASON, Associate Dean (Undergraduate Student Affairs), was one of members of the panel who selected the winning teams for the competition.

National Studies Workshop by the Civil Service Bureau
Prof XU Yan, Associate Dean (HKUST EMBA, Executive Education & China Strategy), was invited to deliver a three-hour speech on the development of China’s telecommunication manufacturing industry on May 8. The talk began with the technology developments with financial aid from the former Soviet Union, to the strategic opening of the Chinese market in the form of joint ventures, and finally a discussion about Huawei. The event was one of the “2019 National Studies Workshop Series” organized by the Civil Service Bureau of the Hong Kong Government. More than 200 civil servants attended the event, with more than 90% of the participants rated it as “outstanding” or “very satisfactory”.

Top 100 Hong Kong Listed Companies
Meanwhile, in recognition of outstanding Hong-Kong listed companies, the Top 100 Hong Kong Listed Companies Research Center conducted its annual award presentation ceremony in Shenzhen on May 24. The School’s Center for Investment was an academic advisor of the award. Prof Xu attended the event on behalf of the school and presented the trophy to winning companies.
