“Leading for Success” Consortium Program for Executives

The 14th cohort of the “Leading for Success Consortium” program concluded successfully in May. The flagship program is specially designed to help leaders and entrepreneurs stay competitive and take their organizations to new heights, and featured four modules held between February and May 2021 – “Competing through Strategic Management” by Professor Chris DORAN, “Leadership and Change Management” by Professor Jean VANHOEGAERDEN, “Achieving Success through People” by Professor Stephen NASON, and “Strategy and Marketing” by Professor Joseph SALVACRUZ.

Featuring a range of interactive teaching methods, including lectures, case studies, group discussions and simulation exercises, participants found the learning experience extremely unique and enjoyable. What’s more, the program also provided executives with new insights and management knowledge to help them enhance their leadership capabilities and broaden their perspectives with benchmarking processes.

On May 2, a closing ceremony was held on campus and Professor Yan XU, Associate Dean of Business Management (HKUST EMBA Program, Executive Programs and China Strategy) gave his closing remarks and presented certificates to the graduates.

Registration is now open for the 15th cohort from September to December 2021. Find out more here.

Management and Leadership Development Program for Internal Training

Talent is the most valuable asset to any organization. HKUST is a leading university in Hong Kong that constantly strives for excellence and nurtures elite talent for its community. Held between April and May 2021, the University’s Human Resources Office and the Executive Education Office co-organized a pilot training program for internal staff on “Management and Leadership Development.” The program was specially curated for senior leaders in the Office of the Vice-President for Administration and Business (VPABO).

Taught by Professor Caroline WANG, Honorary University Fellow and Adjunct Professor of Department of Management, the program was divided into three parts – “‘GPA/IPO’ Management Framework”, “Management through Effective Communication”, and individual coaching sessions with Professor WANG on gap closure. Following the program’s success, the pilot run will open up new opportunities for the Executive Education Office to continue contributing to the HKUST community with practical and valuable training programs in the future.

Marketing Seminar Held for SOGO Senior Executives

HKUST has long been supported by many socially responsible companies. Among them is Lifestyle International Holdings Limited – the Hong Kong-based premier retail operator and owner of two SOGO stores in Hong Kong. The company has established a professorship at the University and has continued to support our scholars to discover innovative approaches and advance global business knowledge.

On June 23 and 30, two successful training sessions were held for senior executives from the company as part of their managerial staff training session. Professor TAM Kar Yan, Dean of HKUST Business School, gave a warm welcome to the participants and Ms Kamshim LAU, the company’s Executive Director, at our Clear Water Bay Campus before the sessions commenced.

As a token of appreciation for the company’s support, Professor Anirban MUKHOPADHYAY, the professorship holder – Chair Professor, Lifestyle International – and Professor of Business and Associate Provost (Teaching and Learning), also gave a seminar on “Connecting the Online and Offline Customer Journeys” to share his latest research on social customer journeys and innovative insights of customer-centered omni-channel retailing in the next normal. The seminar was well-received by the company and participants actively took part in discussions during the training sessions. The seminar was proved to be inspirational and practical for the company’s future creations.
