「創新、飛躍、登峰」 |
|
Speaker: |
Mr.
Timothy Cheung, General Manager, IBM
China/Hong Kong Limited |
China
has emerged as one of the world’s most attractive markets in
addition to its role as the world’s manufacturing base. In 2004, China
recorded a GDP of US$1,649 billion and its per capita GDP reached
US$1,269. Hong Kong enterprises are increasingly seeing China as
their major source of growth and most of them have already enjoyed
the benefits from CEPA to expand their business in China.
However, they are still facing a lot of challenges in replicating
their Hong Kong success due to China’s
unique environment and the scale of the business opportunity.
IBM recently commissioned The Chinese University of Hong
Kong to conduct a research study – “Hong Kong Enterprises –
Grow with and into China” - to identify Hong Kong enterprises' top
market concerns, business issues, needs and opportunities pertinent
to their existing development or expansion plans in China. Mr.
Timothy Cheung, General Manager of IBM China/Hong Kong Limited, will
share with you the research findings and the resulted Point of View
developed by IBM Business Consulting Services which will provide
local enterprises with useful tips on how to address and overcome
business issues in an innovative way. He will also present some
practical guidance and directions on the transformation journey Hong Kong enterprises need to take if they are to reap the growth
opportunities in and with China,
and to raise their competitiveness in the global marketplace.
Speaker Biography
Mr. Cheung joined IBM Hong Kong in 1984 as a sales
trainee. He soon embarked on his China
career in 1985 as a sales representative for the banks in the
nation. From 1986 to 1989, he was responsible for market support and
strategic planning for IBM China. Between 1990 and 1993, he was the
Business Unit Manager of IBM China with the responsibility of
serving clients from the transportation, trading, education,
manufacturing and SME sectors. In 1993, Mr. Cheung set up IBM’s
operations in South China, and became the first General Manager of
the South China Branch. In 1995, he was appointed Executive, Direct
Marketing for IBM Greater China Group, overseeing direct sales and
marketing of IBM in the Greater China market.
Mr. Cheung was Director, Financial Services Sector, IBM
Greater China Group, managing IBM’s largest business in the
Mainland, Hong
Kong and Taiwan in 2001 and 2002. Prior to returning to Hong Kong to
assume his current role in January 2004, he was General Manager,
Technology Group, IBM Greater China Group.

The Specialized Enterprise:
A Necessity for Chinese Firms to Compete |
|
Speaker: |
Mr. Steven Davidson,
Partner, Asia Pacific Leader, Strategy and Change, IBM
Business Consulting Services |
Open communication standards and plummeting
transaction costs have ushered in the era of specialization.
Industry dynamics are changing substantially, presenting firms with
new opportunities to create or destroy value. No matter how large,
individual firms can no longer expect to control end-to-end industry
value chains. Instead, they must specialize in areas where they
command an absolute advantage in the marketplace.
But putting specialization into practice with the
right operating model requires executives to think differently, not
only about the construct of the company but also about the
interrelationships of the assets they rely on to provide value to
the marketplace.
The Component Business Model (CBM) is an innovative
technique for “dissolving” an enterprise into its constituent
building blocks, or components. With the CBM, an enterprise can be
seen as a collection of networked components. Like Lego blocks or
atoms, they can be infinitely combined and recombined, creating
different structures. Thanks to linking technologies like middleware
and the Service Oriented Architecture (SOA), the enterprise can
then, at its discretion, keep the profit centers in-house and
outsource or partner for the commodity areas – creating a more
specialized, indeed on demand, enterprise.
In this presentation, Steven will share IBM’s
views on the economics of specialization, including in Asia Pacific,
and reflect on what this means for the many companies aiming for
growth in the China market.

Integrating
Supply Chain across Hong Kong and China: ERP Enablement and
Business Benefits |
| Speaker: |
Mr. Gautam Bardoloi,
Associate Partner, Asia Pacific Lead - IBM Asset Management
Solution, IBM Business Consulting Services |
Global supply chain planning projects are usually
high-profile, high-risk projects. The key challenges in these
projects are the global scale, the collaboration between people from
different offices and countries, and especially the large impact of
the changes.
As a consultant that provides end-to-end business
solutions spanning hardware, software and consulting services, IBM
has been assisting its clients to troubleshoot and resolve technical
and business issues during the implementation of their global
Enterprise Resources Planning (ERP) system.
Among these challenging projects is a first ever
global implementation that was being lead from China and
rolled out to the rest of the world – rather than the other way
around. That is, a Hong Kong based company with a manufacturing
facility in China was embarking on a single instance integrated ERP
implementation across its global operation.
In this presentation, Gautam will share this live
case on how IBM has successfully helped the client to integrate its
supply chain operations across territories, and discuss the best
practice strategies to develop business benefit cases and roll out
ERP implementations.
