Welcome to our Department of Information Systems, Business Statistics and Operations Management, a multi-disciplinary powerhouse consisting of 3 major areas of research: information systems, operations management and statistics. Housed in the young but world-renowned School of Business and Management at The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, our Department seeks to provide innovative solutions to business problems that confront modern corporations in an ever-more globalized economy. Our colleagues, who have been recruited from the best universities all over the world, are all experts in their areas of specialization. We believe that research and teaching go hand in hand. This is reflected in our course and program design as well as in our strategic positioning and planning. We aspire to tap the brightest brains in academia to nurture a generation of young and enterprising individuals as leaders in this ever-changing world of business.

Our faculty members and research colleagues share the view that academic theories have to be applicable to real-world situations in order to be relevant and useful. Therefore, they maintain a very close relation with the industry through consultancy work and other channels. We constantly, for example, invite leading business leaders to give talks and seminars to keep both our faculty members and students abreast of the latest development trends. This is an added strength of our department in the tertiary education sector of Hong Kong.

To help bring our cutting-edge research initiatives into fruition, we have secured the strong support of business corporations and individuals. Thanks to their generosity, we enjoy a superb setting of state-of-the-art equipment and facilities, which is comparable to any top business school in the world.

This is a wonderful environment for work and study.

Yours sincerely,

Albert Ha
