[eNews] Alumni Interview: AI-driven Resilience

“Every failure points to a new direction” is a belief that 26-year-old entrepreneur Patrick TU (BBA alumnus) and his teammates hold close to heart. Recognized by Forbes’ 30 Under 30, the dynamic trio (also include BBA alumnus Alex Chu) began working on their first AI startup when Patrick was in his final year studying business administration at HKUST.

Soon after their initial attempt at scaling their first AI business idea, the team made a loss trying to pitch for additional investment. Despite the setback, the young team remained determined and resilient. Gradually, they regrouped and learned from their failures. By 2018, the team launched Dayta AI to develop AI analytics solutions for retailers.

Dayta AI achieved a remarkable turnover of over HK$1 million in its first year. Even though the growth of the business slowed down drastically because of COVID-19, 2021 was a pivotal year for the team as social distancing restrictions eased.

Learn more about their entrepreneurship journey and how they navigate through an unprecedented business landscape.
